I recently had the chance to visit 3 Howls Distillery in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood. I also had the opportunity to taste their concoctions as well as learn about their history and the lengthy process it takes to create gin, vodka, rum and whiskey.

Owner/Distiller, Craig Phalen, gave my friend Stacey and I a tour of the distillery. Craig used to work in IT, for companies like Microsoft and Vulcan. While he was able to travel extensively for work, his heart called him towards the culinary world. In 2007, he left IT behind and opened a bar and restaurant in Washington. A few years later, he sold his business and began working with his friend, Will Maschmeier, to open 3 Howls Distillery. The mad science of creating the perfect alcoholic beverage began.

3 Howls Distillery was founded in 2013 and is located in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood. The Distillery operates out of a 5,000-square-foot warehouse, which also houses its still and tasting room. Each spirit begins with a distinct base, is fermented in state-of-the-art stainless steel tanks or an open-top cypress ferment tank, and is distilled using a 300-gallon copper-packed still. The vodkas and whiskeys are also vapor-infused for flavor experience. All of the 3 Howls premium craft spirits are bottled, labeled and packaged by hand, adding that perfect hand-crafted Pacific Northwest touch to each and every bottle.

3 Howls offers many unique experiences in a bottle for your libations palate.
