Sodo Park recently hosted Runway to Freedom 6, benefiting Mary’s Place. Runway to Freedom is produced and curated by Lauren Grinnell, who founded the charitable organization in 2010. The yearly fashion show and live auction were created to help build awareness about domestic violence. Their goal is to raise money to aid local charities that provide services to families in violent situations.

Hosted by KING 5‘s Danielle Leigh and JJ McKay, this year’s event included a fashion show with designs by Zulily, Justin Zachary Bartle, House of Gina Marie and Julie Danforth. Musical guests included The Voice‘s Kimberly Nichole, Jairemie Alexander and Draze.

Bryce Fisher, Joe Tafoya, Macklemore, Marcus Trufant, and Wanz were also in attendance to help support Mary’s Place.

Numbers from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence show an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault each year. Grinnell’s mission is to aid women who find themselves in these kinds of abusive relationships.

The mission of Mary’s Place is to empower homeless women and families to reclaim their lives by providing shelter, nourishment, resources, healing and hope in a safe community. They are one of the leading voices for homeless women and children in emergency situations.
