The Habit Burger Grill recently opened up its first location in the Pacific Northwest in Kent, WA. Rated “The Best Tasting Burger in America” by Consumer Reports, I had the opportunity to taste test their menu myself and see just how true this statement was.
The Habit opened it’s first restaurant in 1969, nestled in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA. Today, there are over 130 locations in 14 markets, satisfying America’s appetite for all things meat.
My husband tried the #2 Double Charburger and I tried the Mushroom Char. We also got to try the french fries, onion rings, the tempura green beans and shakes for dessert. All I have to say is, we will be back, and we will be bringing friends with us to try the many other items on the menu!
The burgers are charbroiled instead of fried and all of the condiments were fresh and crisp. The french fries were crispy and the onion rings had a great crunch to them and were not soggy. My new favorite item has to be the tempura green beans. Fresh cut green beans are lightly battered and flash fried – we could not stop eating them!
I had the chance to speak with one of the managers, AJ Jafrey. Twenty-five Habits will be opening up in Washington over the next few years, with the next location set for the Southcenter area in Tukwila (across the street from Panera). All of the meats for all of the burgers and sandwiches arrive at the restaurant and are cut in-house, the ranch dressing is made in the restaurant (it’s amazing, by the way) and the albacore tuna is flown in from Fiji three times a week.
The Kent location has been open for barely a couple weeks and is already actively involved in the community. The Kent PTA, Northwest Harvest and the local Girl Scouts troop were all recipients of 100% of the profits made from the first few days Habit was open. AJ plans to continue community involvement for years to come.
