Northwest Brewing Company is down the hill from my house and I often find myself there for after work happy hours, Monday Night Football games and last November, I asked Co-founder and COO, Danny Anthony (who has become a friend over the last couple of years), if the brewery would host my birthday happy hour.  Always accommodating, Danny brought in extra staff and extended the brewery hours to celebrate my big day.  Their Blood Orange brew is my go-to favorite (which they can rarely keep in stock anymore because everyone else has discovered it too!), and taproom beertender, Jenny Helm, has become a dear friend (beer brings people together!). Needless to say, I love Northwest Brewing, the beers and the staff.

I asked Danny and Jenny what local breweries mean for Washington communities.

Danny says, “To me it means that feeling you get when you are ‘close to home,’ where there is always a friend or fan of our beers around and if you strike up a conversation with someone new you quickly feel like you have known them for years. That common love of local craft beer just makes people feel good and gives me that comfort and anticipation like coming home from a long road trip when you know you are getting ‘close to home.’ That is a good feeling.”

Jenny says, “I love working at place where I know everyone by name, and their favorite beer. It’s the hilarious regulars that make my job the best beer gig out there. The environment is definitely one in a million, that still makes me smile as I walk into work.  The beers not bad either!”

On July 9, 2016, Northwest Brewing celebrated five years of serving the community its award winning beers. Hundreds of locals showed up to support and celebrate the brewery.  Kurt Lindsay, Mark Mauldin Band, and Dan Benz & Friendz kept the music going while Stacks Burgers and Mikey’s Wiener Trap provided the delicious nosh to go with all of the brews.
