On Thursday, May 18, 2017, your drive from Pierce and South King County on the forever-laden parking lot that is 167 just became the light at the end of the tunnel. Now, once you drive under the 405 (I am a California-native you guys, I have to say “the 405” and “the 5,” I’m sorry) and you hit that Grady Way stoplight, all that stress from your drive can melt away.
Dutch Bros. Coffee is now open in Renton.
Yes, it’s next to Popeyes, within sight of one of the busiest drive-thru Starbucks known to man. But now, the cult-like love of Oregon’s finest is now in the heart of Renton.
I had the chance to visit the location the day before they opened for a Friends and Family evening. I chatted briefly with the franchise owner, Ron Watkins, and he is above and beyond excited to finally be open! You can check out my interview with him and Dutch Bros. team a few months ago here.
This location will be employing approximately 26 baristas once they are fully staffed. For the next couple of weeks, Dutch Bros. mobsters will be helping out. The mobsters are the experienced staff from other locations, helping out the new and eager employees!
What makes Dutch Bros. Coffee standout among the rest really are the employees, and its all in the details. As I was hanging out at the Friends and Family event, Amanda and Bethany from Dutch Bros. HQ went over to Popeyes and took down the orders of all the employees and brought them all free drinks. It was such a cool way to see how Dutch Bros. really cares about the communities around them.
I also had the chance to chat with Keayana Brown, who is one of the Renton-location baristas. She is so incredibly excited to be working at Dutch Bros. She is originally from Yakima and now lives in Renton. This is her first job in the coffee industry and she wouldn’t work for any other!! Look for her and say hello when you stop by!
What I am excited to try, and as of this writing I still haven’t, is the Cold Brew can. Dutch Bros. is launching their Cold Brew to all of their locations, and Renton will have about ten cases to start. Don’t drink them all before I can try one!!!
