On Saturday July 22nd 2017, Fashion District NW presented the Cars and Couture Fashion Show at The LeMay—America’s Car Museum in Tacoma. Emceed by the lovely Juliette Dang, the event highlighted several northwest designers in a fashion showcase that provided a true glimpse of each designer’s talent and artistic expression. Attendees were treated to the visual allure of vintage and modern exotic sportscars as the models walked a runway that weaved throughout the automobiles on display.

First to showcase her designs was Dawnamatrix, known for blending latex and luxury with a futuristic vibe. Dawnamatrix designs have been worn by celebrities such as Katy Perry, and have been featured in publications such as Vogue and WWD. Perfect for statement making or self expression, each look was definitely memorable and paired well with the Shady Bitch Eyewear the models also wore.

Following Dawnamatrix was Gustavo Apiti Couture, specializing in uniquely tailored men’s and womenswear. Originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo and winner of the 2017 Chance Collaboration of the Year Award, Gustavo’s pieces favored elegantly constructed gowns and tailored daywear. With nods to culture, history and tradition, Gustavo’s work stands out as he continues to gain notoriety in the fashion world.

Dream Dresses by PMN arrived next onto the runway with hand-beaded, custom and stunning bridal creations. Every dress was captivating in its own way, and it was easy to see why brides worldwide who want one-of-a-kind gowns have sought out this fabulous line. While watching these dresses you can easily see why there are many different types of bridal couture available. It is reminiscent of couture retailers similar to Winnie Couture as well as others.

After a brief intermission and a chance to grab a drink, mingle and walk throughout the museum and admire the setting sun over the harbor and downtown Tacoma, the show continued with American designer Carole McClellan. Notably, Carole was the winning designer of The Independent Designer Runway competition during Bellevue Fashion Week in 2012, and has designed looks for Ann Wilson of the rock band Heart. Models showcased fur and leather designs from coats and hats to fur-lined boots.

Closing out the show was Lisa Marie Couture, whose bridal and evening gowns embodied individualistic style and beauty. These gowns effortlessly graced the runway and were complemented by obvious attention to detail and the stunning jewelry of Namiko Abloom.

In addition to the runway show, several designers were on hand in the mezzanine of the museum to display their wares, which provided a chance for attendees to see and purchase several jewelry and eyewear pieces up close. The accessory designers included Love Letters Intimates, Namiko Abloom, Opearl Brands, Shady Bitch Eyewear and the Victoria Stowe Collection.

With a fantastic venue and incredible fashion, this event was a true highlight of northwest style and design. We can’t wait for next year’s show!
