The Wonder of Learning: The Hundred Languages of Children exhibit from the world-renowned schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy will make its Seattle debut this month at One Convention Place. The traveling exhibit from the Preschools and Infant-Toddler Centers, Istituzione of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, managed by Reggio Children, coordinated by the North American Reggio Emilia Alliance (NAREA), and hosted by The Washington Collective, illustrates the difference great early childhood education can make on young minds and the future. This can build children up for a successful future; why wouldn’t anyone want to be involved in this? No wonder a Career in childcare is so popular!

“The state of Washington gets to see a real utopia,” said Paula Jones, founder of The Washington Collective. “The exhibit shows us that we can make the world a better place by listening to young children and connecting our aspirations as human beings. Guests will encounter beautiful examples of children’s curiosity and creativity emerge with profound strength and see what happens when adults apply the same kind of curiosity and creativity in building opportunities for them.”
Consisting of six thematic areas, visitors will be immersed in the world of the much-admired Reggio Emilia philosophy of early childhood education and understand how children, from birth, use many “languages,” such as clay, music, paint, drama and writing, to learn about and make meaning of the world.

The Washington Collective, a non-profit organization promoting a re-envisioning of what society provides young children and creating larger conversations across the state about utopias for young children, will be hosting the exhibit in collaboration with Reggio Children and NAREA during its stay in Seattle. In addition to the exhibit, The Washington Collective is hosting a Reggio-inspired speaker series where experts will share their insights in creating schools and democratic spaces for children and families.
Seattle is one of just 22 cities chosen to host The Hundred Languages of Children alongside New York, Miami, Chicago and more. The exhibit will draw everyone from parents, teachers, students, policy makers, families and interested citizens alike and speaks to those who believe that safeguarding educational processes and their evolution is of fundamental importance for society.
