Last week I had the opportunity to attend the showing of Romeo and Juliet at the Can Can. What makes this presentation of the classic fable so unique ? The Can Can is a culinary cabaret in the heart of the Pike Place Market!

Let’s start with entering the establishment: dim lighting, show stopping costumes from the hostesses, and a very “underground” speakeasy feeling. You feel as if you were hand selected to be in there; a secret spot you found in the market. While waiting to be seated behind the curtains, you can enjoy the cocktails and ambiance (their moscow mules are delightful).

Once the hostess calls you, you enter another small world. The seating is cozy and intimate, and the red lights create a strong feeling in the air. While waiting for the show to begin, you can select your meal for the evening off a hand crafted, vibrant menu. My guest and I decided to indulge with oyster half shell, arugula salad, flat bread, and frites.

“Jonny Boy” was the host for the evening. He was sparkling and exciting, and kept the energy up during the entire production. The show was surprisingly interactive, and made for a night of laughter and some mild embarrassment.

“Fair Elise” played Juliet and “Glory Joel” played Romeo. They not only were able to capture the mood of the play, they put on a show stopping cabaret version of it. Anything and everything was on that stage: glitter, lights, pasties, and props! The audience was glued to every move they made. The ensemble cast were outstanding in their own right.
If you are looking for something different, late night, spontaneous, and full of adventure, then I would highly suggest getting tickets for Romeo and Juliet at the Can Can.
