Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. Every store is unique and independent, and every party is different. But in addition to authors, live music, cupcakes, scavenger hunts, kids events, art tables, readings, barbecues, contests, and other fun stuff, there are exclusive books and literary items that you can only get on that day. Not before. Not after. Not online.

There are bookstores all over the Pacific Northwest participating in the Independent Bookstore Day! We have highlighted a few below in different cities, but click here for a full map! There are so many bookstores participating, you don’t want to miss out! If you are a writer, you never know, your book cover design could be adorning our shelves with your words waiting for someone to read them one day! So for all the independent authors out there, keep pushing through.

If you live in the Seattle area, the Seattle Independent Bookstore Day (SIBD) is a book-lover’s dream. SIBD offers a range of activities from in-store parties and giveaways to author appearances and the now-famous bookstore challenges. On April 28, fans can pick up an SIBD Passport at any of the participating stores and use it to collect stamps during the day as proof of visits. Those who have their passports stamped at three or more stores will receive a coupon good for a one-time, 30 percent-off discount at any one of the 19 participating stores. For the truly dedicated (and swift of foot), people who visit all 19 participating stores on April 28 will receive a Champion Card entitling them to 25 percent off at all 19 participating stores for a year. In 2015, 42 valiant souls made the trek; last year that number grew to 320 bookstore champions. SIBD is going for another record this year. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #SEABookStoreDay!
