Maslow’s by Farestart recently launched a new monthly event series called Burgers + Brews at Maslow’s in partnership with some of the Northwest’s more celebrated craft breweries. On the last Wednesday of each month, Maslow’s will create and serve two new burgers not found on its regular menu and pair them with two top brews from that month’s Northwest beer partner.

FareStart provides a community that transforms lives by empowering homeless and disadvantaged men, women, and families to achieve self-sufficiency through life skills, job training and employment in the food service industry. Maslow’s is one of Farestart’s job training restaurants that features small and large classic American plates made fresh daily – that can stand alone or be shared family-style. All ingredients on their menu are house made, sustainable and local, as available.

Located in the heart of Amazon Headquarters, Amazon gave the 25,000 square foot restaurant space to Farestart to provide the job training and food industry employment opportunities to the disadvantaged. They also have Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs displayed on the wall of the restaurant to remind us all of the basic fundamentals to not only survive, but thrive.

The first partnership in April was  with Snoqualmie Brewery. and featured a Pavo Relleno Burger paired with their Haystack Hefeweizen or a Wurst Burger paired with their Wildcat IPA. The Pavo Relleno Turkey Burger was topped with a chili relleno, grilled red onion, lettuce and sauce on a potato bun. The Wurst Beef Burger was topped with an onion ring, homemade red kraut, sweet relish and sauce on a pretzel bun.

Behold, the Wurst Burger

Since they had me at pretzel bun and I’m not a fan of IPA’s, I ordered the Wurst Burger with fries and the Haystack Hef. The moment the hot and fresh burger was delivered to my table, my mouth began to water. With the first bite, the sauce and relish oozed onto my fingers and my palate felt like it was in heaven. The beef was cooked to medium perfection and the saltiness of the pretzel bun enhanced the overall tasting experience. The Haystack Hefeweizen reminded me of my trips to Germany, with its spicy-citrusy aroma that carries over to a clean, mellow flavor with spice, citrus, and yeast overtones. Picked up my Snoqualmie Brewery growler on the way out!
