On September 11, Cirque du Soleil premiered VOLTA, under its iconic Big Top at Marymoor Park. I was lucky to experience the evening with my husband Adam and this was our 10th Cirque show, but our first time attending on a premiere night. We were invited to arrive early and enjoy some pre-show festivities. As we approached the Big Top we were welcomed by two performers playing the conga drums, a performer on a unicycle passing out key chains, performers on skates giving away red noses, and waiters with trays of bubbly champagne and delicious hors d’oeuvres.
At 7:15 pm. the doors to the Big Top opened and the party went indoors. The tent was lit up and music was playing, there were circular couches with pillows that glowed, concession stands, and a gift shop. The champagne was flowing, courtesy of Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte, complimentary popcorn, and photo opportunities with the performers.
Volta is a story of transformation, it’s about being true to yourself, fulfilling your true potential, and recognizing your own power to make it possible. The show combines circus art with high-adrenaline street sports. You follow Waz as he becomes a contestant on the Mr. Wow Show, (my husband’s favorite part) with the contestants showing their talents of rope skipping, juggling, hula hooping, and dancing. Waz finds that fame is not the answer but that what makes him unique and different is what also makes him extraordinary. My favorite character was Ela, the free-spirit that sees potential in others and encourages them to find it. My favorite acts were the hand-to-hand on a unicycle, the mix of BMX riding and ballet, the trampo-wall, and the finale BMX act that was full of daring jumps and flips!

The show is very family friendly and will be presented at Marymoor Park until November 4th, I highly recommend you purchase your tickets today to go see it! You do not want to miss this!
