The American Romanian Cultural Society (ARCS) recently announced the full lineup for the 5th Edition of The Romanian Film Festival Seattle, screening November 2-4 at SIFF Cinema Uptown.

This year’s festival will carry the spirit of Halloween into November by taking viewers on a tour of Romania and its “Uncanny Worlds,” starting with an Opening Night Gala and screening of the supernatural love story Miss Christina by Director Alexandru Maftei. This chilling Gothic tale of a woman who returns from the dead features famed actress Maia Morgenstern (Mary in The Passion of the Christ) as the mysterious Mrs. Moscu. Morgenstern is scheduled to attend the festival as a special guest, and will participate in a Q&A following the film.
Other festival highlights include the stunning documentary Untamed Romania, which explores the natural beauty of Romania; award-winning coming-of-age drama One Step Behind the Seraphim; human-interest documentary Planet Petrila, about an ex-miner who turns an abandoned mine into an art project; The Treasure (2015), which won the Un Certain Regard: A Certain Talent prize at Cannes, by Corneliu Porumboiu — one of the most praised directors of New Romanian Cinema, and The Wanderers: The Quest of the Demon Hunter, starring Armand Assante as a demon hunter fighting evil around a Transylvanian castle. The festival will close with a screening of comedy/drama D-Love, starring and directed by Elena Beuca, about a troubled married couple who opens their home to a complete stranger. Beuca is also scheduled to attend and will be present for a Q&A after the screening.
For it’s 5th Edition, the festival is also featuring a special exhibition by artist Daniel Ursache, titled “Uncanny Figments”, hosted by A/NT Gallery. The exhibition opens Saturday, November 3, and artwork will be on display through the end of the month.
Additional special guests expected to attend include Director Daniel Sandu (One Step Behind the Seraphim), Director Bogdan (There), Directors Andrei Dăscălescu & Paula Niculescu (Planet Petrila), and Director Dragoș Buliga (The Wanderers: The Quest of the Demon Hunter). Special guest appearances are tentative, and subject to change.
