I recently had the chance to get my own LilaJune Glow when I received their very convenient travel kit, with the lip balm, rejuvenating eye cream, plumping day cream, regenerating night cream, hydrating cleansing milk, hydrating facial toner and exfoliating sugar scrub! I also received a full sized moisturizing body cream. I just recently turned 39 years old, and with age comes the need for anything to help plump up my aging skin. Between staying out of the sun (spray tanning is my friend!), collagen powder with my morning coffee, botox, micro-needling, derma-rolling, filler (which I get discounted using things like BHMD Deep Wrinkle Filler coupons), and the plethora of products I keep trying, I’m hoping to retain a youthful glow well into my 80’s (to help, I think I need to visit the LilaJune Skincare and Nail Studio – more on that below)!

All of the products I tried smelled very clean with no heavy fragrances. The moisturizing body cream, made with macadamia nut and sweet almond oils has turned into my go-to lotion once I get out of the shower (and I must say, my female boxer dog, Nala, absolutely loves it and won’t stop licking me after I put it on!). The body cream soaks into your skin but doesn’t leave you feeling greasy. It’s proving to be very helpful during these dry winter months when heaters are constantly blasting you!

I love washing my face with the gentle hydrating cleansing milk and then using the skin smoothing sugar scrub once a week to exfoliate my skin. The day cream, night cream and eye cream all have helped lessen the look of my eye crinkles, especially when I apply them under my makeup. The hydrating toner has proven to be a great facial pick-me-up after a long day at the office. I spritz a little on my face a couple of times to help rejuvenate my makeup! And that lip balm makes my lips softer than so many other lip balms that I have tried!

I had the chance to sit down with LilaJune founder, Jennie Townsan, to learn more!

Tell us about you! Where are you from, what was life like growing up?

I grew up in Edmonds, Washington, I had a pretty amazing childhood. There were always tons of kids in the neighborhood my age to play with. My family’s house had a perfect view of my neighbor’s pool, so I would know if I wasn’t invited to a pool party. We even had an organized “Ironman” competition for all the kids with different age groups and prizes.

How does the Pacific Northwest lifestyle inspire you?

I love the raw natural beauty that the PNW offers. The surroundings inspire me to live clean. From locally made candles, clothes and accessories to locally grown food — and my very own skincare line!

Who inspires you the most and why?

This could be the longest list ever. I can’t even say one person inspires me more than another. I will say Amy Schumer is one of my favorite success stories. I admire her for her insane intelligence and willingness to boldly stand up for what she believes in. I don’t think people realize what it takes to be a stand-up comedian, let alone a female comedian. I listened to her audiobook on a run and got many strange looks as I was cackling and wheezing running up a steep hill. Her book not only made me laugh hysterically, but it really revealed who she is and what she endured to get to where she is. Tenacious is an understatement.

What made you decide to get into the skincare business and create LilaJune?

As an aesthetician, I tried so many products and there wasn’t one product or line that really stood out for me. Sometimes it was the fragrance, the texture, or the way my skin still felt dry after using a cleanser or moisturizer. It really got me thinking that there needed to be something that had it all.

What’s behind the name LilaJune?

I was pregnant with my youngest daughter Lila when I created the line. I was on a hike with my older daughter Daisy at the time and we were throwing names out there. She didn’t think her name sounded quite right and said what about Lila June? Lila’s middle name is June. It just fit.

Tell us about your products and what went into making them?

I immersed myself in reading books about ingredients and their benefits in anti-aging, skincare, hydration, reducing inflammation, regenerating the skin, the list goes on and on. I found someone, who coincidentally lived less than 10 minutes from me, that she was an environmental biochemist that knew how to make products, well, it was meant to be. She was just as passionate as I was about clean ingredients. We were able to put our heads together and come up with these amazing products.

What makes LilaJune different from similar skincare products on the market?

The main thing I notice with other natural and not-so-natural products, is the creamy consistency of LilaJune. The luxurious textures and the clean non-fragranced scents feel so good going on the skin and leave the skin feeling really moisturized all day without ever feeling greasy. I’ve never found anything that compared to the way LilaJune feels and lasts.

Tell us about the LilaJune Studio on Bainbridge Island? What types of services do you offer?

The LilaJune Skincare & Nail Studio is on the second floor above a hair salon, which offers a level of privacy and anonymity while feeling inviting and professional. We offer a full range of medi-spa services from dermaplaning facials to Botox and micro-needling as well as lash extensions, massage and nail services. We like to think of it as Bainbridge’s little oasis of calm and pampering.

What are some charities and non-profits that are near and dear to your heart?

Again, choosing just one is very difficult. Having two daughters, Shared Hope International is the non-profit that is near and dear to my heart. I love that this organization is working nationally in the US and globally to fight for victims of sex trafficking. They are literally hands on building safe houses as well as changing legislation. While working hard to educate all of us about this horrible crime they are really combating the issue from all angles to really make a difference. With every purchase of a LilaJune Skincare product, a percentage of our proceeds is donated directly to Shared Hope.

What are the plans for LilaJune in 2019?

I love this question! As a small-business owner, I continue to challenge myself each day. My ultimate goal is to add more products to the line. A clean deodorant and gel face cleanser are first on my list!
