Ready for an authentic Italian pizzeria experience with dishes using ingredients sourced directly from Italy and farm-grown by the owner on his farm in Oregon? Northwest restaurateur, Garrett McAleese is pursuing his passion for traditional Italian fare with the opening of his newest restaurant in lower Queen Anne, Coltiva pizzeria e barra!

Coltiva celebrated its grand opening in Seattle in November 2018, debuting authentic thin crust pizza from handmade dough, carefully-sourced ingredients, and craft cocktails. Garrett’s love of Italian food stems from childhood trips to Ireland, where the highlight of the trip was taking a short plane ride to Italy and enjoying local eats. Also the owner of Kells Irish Brewery and Restaurant in NW Portland, McAleese is excited to bring his wealth of food and wine knowledge, passion, and pure love of pizza to Seattle.

Coltiva pizzeria e barra’s bright, airy atmosphere includes quaint indoor space and ample outdoor seating. Dishes are made with the highest quality and authentic ingredients such as hard cheeses from producers in Sardinia and organic, farm-grown and canned Oregon tomatoes, and humanely raised beef from a husband and wife team at Nehalem River Ranch in Oregon.

Conveniently located three blocks from Seattle Center, Coltiva is an ideal place to pre-game for dinner before heading over to an event. I highly recommend starting dinner off with one of their seasonal cocktails and Little Gem, made with gem lettuce, shaved parmigiano and chili bread crumbs – the fruit and nutty taste of the parmigiano is perfectly paired with the slight heat from the chili bread crumbs (it’s not too hot, just a kick to the taste buds!).

You can’t go to a pizza restaurant and not try the pizza – may I recommend the Autunno and the Funghi? Autunno (add the prosciutto – trust me!) is made with gorgonzola, fresh sliced apple, honey, walnut and arugula. The savory and the sweetness combined was absolute perfection. For those who can’t get enough truffle in their life, Funghi is made with black truffle oil, chanterelles, mozzarella, greens and thyme. The intoxicating aroma of the truffle oil along with the woodsy flavors brought out by the chanterelles and the crunch into the mozzarella….okay my mouth is watering typing this!

In addition to the sip-worthy cocktails and food you want to savor forever, the staff at Coltiva is top-notch. With hilarious aprons, friendly smiles and one-on-one service, your entire experience at Coltiva will be one you want to have again and again, and then you will have to bring your friends and family!
