I’m in my early 40’s now and always looking for ways to improve my aging skin and solve those little pore problems as they come up. I have had Botox injections a few times (one time it didn’t ever take!) and I’ve also had microneedling done twice. While these are great things to have done, they aren’t always financially feasible. Anytime I can try something new that I can actually afford, I’m in.
Rachel Wernet, the boss lady over at Seattle-based, Bedrock, recently sent me some products to try.
New to Bedrock? So was I!
After Rachel survived an angry armpit rash and became obsessed with zinc, she set out to save time and sanity to solve annoying skin issues with zinc oxide and plant super powers! Thus Bedrock was born. Bedrock is vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, non-toxic and non-nano zinc oxide and made right here in the USA!
Rachel sent me Bedrock Balm, Freshstick deodorant and Porefector. I gave myself two months with each of the products so I could give a full review! If you are interested in the results, keep on reading!
Freshstick ($15)

Freshstick is an aluminum, baking soda, alcohol, fragrance, paraben and salt free deodorant that is plant-based to combat odor and impurities. Made with Matcha green tea and zinc oxide, it work to calm redness, razor bumps and soften skin.
How Freshstick works:
- Zinc oxide creates a protective layer to fight odor and moisture; those awesome mineral properties also help soothe redness, bumps, nicks, dry skin and discoloration
- Matcha green tea helps calm and cool skin, especially shaving irritation
- Nourishing antioxidants like rosehip seed oil, eggplant and basil extracts help you feel clean and confident
- Ivy Gourd, Tulsi, Turmeric, and Moringa purify odor
Freshstick – My Experience
I don’t know if I’m the only person in the world who actually breaks out in a rash with natural deodorants – but it has happened to me many times with multiple products. I’m probably just weird. Can anyone else relate? I also workout pretty much everyday and while I don’t mind the sweat part so much, I really need something that helps with that post-workout smell.
Freshstick is one of the first natural deodorants I have used that kept me rash free!! While it does leave a little white residue under your arms (watch out when wearing darker clothes), it only leaves as much as any standard stick would, and eventually disappears. While it is fragrance free, it does smell like a clean powder. It also doesn’t apply like the click and twist deodorants, if you remember Push Pops, its much more like that. It also held up fairly well with my post-workout sweat smell. It didn’t really keep me from sweating, but trust me, nothing ever does when doing CrossFit-like workouts.
Porefector ($22.50)

Porefector whips your pores into shape and whisks oil away. The spot corrector is concentrated with 30% zinc oxide to tackle blemishes, even skin tone, minimize pores, detox impurities, and calm redness so your complexion is glowing with confidence. The formula also contains organic borage seed oil, tamanu oil, moringa seed oil, arrowroot tapioca, and clary sage to soothe redness and minimize imperfections without stripping or drying your skin.
Porefector – My Experience
Porefector, while small in size, has a lot of product as a little goes a long way. It doesn’t have much of a smell but does leave white residue on my skin (to which I just let it works its magic at night while I sleep).
Early on in college, I had terrible acne and the only thing that finally worked for me was Accutane. Luckily 20+ years later, while I still have some scarring, I don’t break out like I used to and only once in awhile get a few zits here and there. I did happen to have two while trying this product so I figured it was a good time to try Porefector. I applied it each night directly to my lovely zits and it definitely seem to minimize the amount of time they stuck around. It did seem to dry my zit out more than usual, to which I would have to apply more moisturizer in the morning on that spot.
Bedrock Balm ($23.50)

Bedrock Balm is Bedrock’s most popular skin barrier product. The deeply nourishing zinc cream calms redness, dry hands, dryness on face, eczema, itchy and irritated skin. It’s purposed with 22% zinc oxide, is cruelty-free and contains botanicals like Rosehip Seed Oil, Organic Jojoba Seed Oil, Organic Calendula Flower, and Vitamin E to rebalance skin and rejuvenate.
Try it for cuts, scrapes, rashes, razor burn, bumps, bug bites, cold sores, ingrown hairs, eczema and more. Bedrock Balm is also effective as a night cream for dry skin, cracked fingertips, extremely dry hands, dry hands grip, or rough skin on face.
Bedrock Balm – My Experience
I can see why the Bedrock Balm is popular, it’s also my favorite product. It does have a light, clean scent and leaves a little bit of a white sheen after rubbing it in. It does pack a nice moisturizing punch for the drier patches on my face, but it’s worth it’s weight in gold for razor bumps! And I’m talking the “down there” razor bumps. Whether you shave, Nair, wax, whatever – the Bedrock Balm was my saving grace for all those sensitive bumps and burns. I definitely recommend it if you need a good aftercare type lotion.
Thank you to Rachel at Bedrock for the chance to try out the products! Want to try them out youself?
